While most plastics will exist nearly forever on Earth, they do still degrade, however slowly. After 25 years of Summer expansion and Winter contraction speeding up the process, the plastics are showing higher rates of wear and tear as JAWS nears end of life.
We have made the hard choice to close it until further notice as a precaution to ensure the safest environment possible for your family and loved ones.
To understand just how long JAWS has been sunbathing, let’s go back to a sunny day in 1999 when a group of dedicated NWSC members got together to assemble the 26.5 ft tall waterslide whose pieces had just arrived from Oregon, where it was manufactured.
Fast forward to 2023 when we endured two JAWS closures due to structural damage and long waits for replacement pieces from far away places. We had JAWS reassembled in time for 2024 opening, but as the new pieces comingle with the old, the writing on the slide wall is clear and we can‘t ignore the elevated risk of an aging structure.
Please be assured this has become our top priority! We know how much JAWS adds to your summer fun and how sorely it‘s missed when we can‘t allow friends to ride due to safety concerns.
