6/3 A Heartfelt Thank You – And Let the Summer Begin!

Dear Members,

As we officially open the pool today, I want to take a moment to thank you—from the bottom of my heart—for your incredible patience, support, and understanding over these past couple of weeks.

While we certainly didn’t plan for the season to start this way, I’ll admit I’m a little grateful the weather gave us some grace during the delay. But what I’m most grateful for is the amazing community we have here. Your kindness, flexibility, and positive attitude made a challenging situation so much easier to navigate, and it didn’t go unnoticed.

I also want to recognize and celebrate the incredible hard work of Tom, Leigh, Kyle, Bill, and the rest of our staff. They’ve poured countless hours into troubleshooting, coordinating repairs, and doing whatever it took to get the pool up and running—often well outside of their scheduled time. Their dedication, problem-solving, and commitment to this club are the reason we’re able to dive into summer today.

I’m so excited for the season ahead—for cannonballs, quiet swims, sunny afternoons, and sharing it all with my family and all of you. Here’s to a great summer at the pool—we’ve certainly earned it.

Warmly,

Alicia McAuliffe

6/2 Pool Update – We’re Back in Business!

Dear Members,

We’ve got great news to kick off the week—and (fingers crossed!) the 2025 swim season!

Over the weekend, Tom was able to get the pool circulating—albeit at a snail’s pace—but it was just enough to begin heating the water and inch things forward. This morning, the specialist from Speer Mechanical arrived, and we’re thrilled to report that we are now circulating at full tilt!

Even better? Thanks to the new equipment, the system is now running more efficiently and faster than it has in previous years. As part of the process, our electrician temporarily wired the system to get us up and running as quickly as possible. He’ll be returning on Wednesday to complete the permanent hard wiring so everything is set for the long haul.

Assuming everything continues to operate as expected, we are officially planning to open the pool tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:00pm. The water might still be a little on the chilly side—those overnight temps aren’t doing us any favors—but hey, we’ll take it!

Thank you again for your patience, your understanding, and your support. We can’t wait to see everyone poolside and officially kick off summer 2025!

Warmly,

Alicia McAuliffe

5/31 Pool Update – Still Working Hard Behind the Scenes

Dear Members,

We want to thank you again for your continued patience as we work through the unexpected hurdles getting the pool open this season. While the new Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) has been installed and the pump is up and running, we’ve hit another snag.

Currently, the pump is circulating water at 600 gallons per minute—but per health code, we need to be at 1,200 gallons per minute in order to open the pool safely. Our team is doing everything possible to figure out the cause and resolve it quickly.

Tom and Leigh were on-site working through the issue until 10pm last night, and we’ve had a full lineup of professionals involved today. The electrician returned this morning, and a technician from Speer Mechanical was back out again to reset the VFD. Speer is now bringing in a specialist on Monday to help diagnose the issue and provide targeted solutions.

We want to be clear: this is not a situation anyone could have predicted, and it’s certainly not for lack of effort—or investment. Our staff and board members have been working around the clock to get things up and running as quickly and safely as possible.

We know this isn’t the pool season kickoff any of us had hoped for, but we’re grateful for your understanding and support. We’ll continue to keep you informed as soon as we know more.

Warmly,
Alicia McAuliffe

5/30 Pool Update – A Slight Delay, But We're Almost There!

Dear Members,

We’re inching closer to opening day! Our new Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) was delivered this morning at 10:30am, and a technician from Speer Mechanical began installation right away. Unfortunately, as with all things involving 60-year-old pool systems, we hit one more unexpected bump.

During installation, we discovered that some of the underground wiring connected to the system had been fried and will need to be replaced. We’ve already lined up an electrician to come out this evening to make the necessary repairs.

With that work underway, we’re now aiming to open the pool at 10am on Sunday. While we’re disappointed by this additional delay, we’re doing everything we can to safely and quickly get the pool ready for swimmers. And honestly—with the cold, rainy weather today, maybe the universe knew it wasn’t quite cannonball weather yet.

In the meantime, the hot tub and baby pool remain open, so if you need a little escape from the chaos of school ending—or just want to warm up on this very non-summer-like day—you’re welcome to stop by. I’ll be in the hot tub at some point myself, trying to decompress from this week’s unexpected plot twists and pretending I’m at a resort instead of troubleshooting unforeseen electrical issues in the rain.

Thank you again for your continued patience and support. We’ll keep you posted as the situation unfolds and will share any changes to the timeline as soon as we know more.

Warmly,

Alicia McAuliffe

5/23 Pool Update – We’re Almost There!

Dear Members,

We’re so excited to welcome you back for another summer at the Northwest Swim Club! Our staff has been working hard behind the scenes to get the pool ready, and we’ve made great progress with some key upgrades to our mechanical systems.

That said, we’ve hit a bit of an unexpected snag. After installing the new motor and powering everything on, it became clear that the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD)—a crucial component that helps regulate the speed and energy efficiency of our pool’s pump system—was no longer functioning. Essentially, the VFD controls how fast the pump motor runs, which is essential for circulating and filtering the water properly. Without it, the pool can’t operate safely or effectively.

The good news is that a new VFD has already been ordered and is expected to arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Once it’s installed, we’ll need to run the water through the filtration system for 24 hours to ensure everything is clean and ready for swimmers. Based on this timeline, we’re aiming to have the pool fully operational by late afternoon to early evening on Friday, May 30th.

We understand this is disappointing news, especially at the start of the season—we feel the same way. This certainly isn’t how we envisioned kicking off 2025. But please know that your board and our staff are doing everything we can to move quickly and safely to get things back on track.

In the meantime, the hot tub and baby pool are open and available for use, so we encourage you to come by and enjoy those areas while we put the final touches on the main pool.

We’ll continue to keep you updated if anything changes so keep an eye out for email communication and social media posts from NWSC. Thank you for your patience and continued support—we can’t wait to see you poolside very soon!

Warmly,
